1997 - Cefn Mawr, Plas Madoc, Acrefair, Rhosymedre and Newbridge came together with Wrexham County Borough Council to tackle the issues associated with Regeneration and Social Inclusion. Early on it was recognised that the Development Trust would provide the best vehicle for the long-term regeneration of the ‘strategy area’ that encompasses all five communities. 2004 - The Dee Valley Community Partnership (Development Trust) is established with a board that represented a wide range of local interests, including the voluntary & public sectors, local business and other committed local residents. The Dee Valley Community Partnership is an independent community based organisation. Fundamental aims of the Development Trust: • The fostering of strong and lasting partnerships • Minimising duplication • Facilitating community involvement, accountability • and the creation of common wealth • Financial independence, self-sufficiency • and sustainability • Become increasingly independent of the local authority • and owned by the community. Independence will • increase the confidence of local people about the trust • and it will put the people at the heart of what they do. We are: • Engaged in the economic, social, cultural and • environmental regeneration of the community • Independent and aiming for self-sufficiency • Not-for-private-profit • Community based, with community management • Actively involved in partnerships between the • community, voluntary, private and public sectors What do we do? What type of activities do development trusts undertake? Development trusts are concerned with regeneration in its widest and deepest sense - with the area’s economy, environment, facilities and services and the spirit of its communities. Typical projects undertaken by members of the DTA include: | • Property Development | • Managed Workspace | | • Sports And Leisure Facilities | • Retail And Market Space | | • Building Restoration | • Environmental Improvement | | • Education Work | • Business Development | | • Employment Training | • Information Services | | • Community Development | • Social Provision | | • Countryside Management | • Tourism | | • Heritage Interpretation | • And many, many more | Most importantly, development trusts provide an effective way of involving local people in improving the quality of life in their own neighbourhoods.
